Baccalaureate Mass

The 2019 Baccalaureate Mass will be held Friday, May 10, at 4 p.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church on the university’s main campus. The service is for all candidates for graduation from the College of Arts & Sciences, College of Music and Fine Arts, College of Business, and College of Nursing and Health.

Candidates participating in the Baccalaureate Mass must report to the arcade located on the Thomas Hall side of the Marquette Horseshoe at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the service.

In accordance with custom, all candidates are required to wear academic caps and gowns for the Baccalaureate Mass. Hoods, cords, stoles, etc. are to be worn at commencement only. Official baccalaureate marshals will be on hand to assist with the procession. When directed, candidates will proceed to the pews on the right or left as indicated and stand facing the center aisle until the celebrants have passed. Mass will proceed as usual.

All graduating students should join the Communion procession. Those receiving Communion are invited to present one hand over the other in front of the Communion minister to receive the Host. Those not receiving Communion are invited to cross their arms over their chests to receive a blessing.

Tickets are not required for the Baccalaureate Mass. Guest seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Baccalaureate Mass Parking

All Loyola parking garages and losts will open with free parking May 10 to accommodate guests attending the Baccalaureate Mass. Guests may park in the West Road Garage, Freret Street Garage, or the Mercy Hall parking lot. Police officers will be on hand to help direct traffic. Only vehicles with a disabled license plate or hang tag will will be allowed to park in those spaces designated for disabled parking on campus.
