Loyola Universityĺs Jazz Underground Series presents ôBanjo Kingsö featuring Don Vappie

The Loyola University New Orleans College of Music and Fine Arts proudly presents ôBanjo Kingsö featuring Don Vappie as part of their 2007-2008 Montage Jazz Underground Series. On Thursday, November 15, at 7:30 p.m., renowned banjo artist Don Vappie performs an eclectic collection of songs that exhibit his vast knowledge of the banjo. The performance takes place in The Underground, located in the basement of the Danna Student Center, on the Loyola University main campus.

Vappie, born in New Orleans, is descended from a long line of New Orleans musicians that goes back to the 19th century. Known for his original banjo style, multi-talented Vappie also plays mandolin, guitar, and string bass. Having been recently nominated to the Four String Banjo Hall of Fame, he has transcribed many early jazz recordings of Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, King Oliver, and others. Over the past 10 years, Vappie has also appeared as a regular guest with Wynton Marsalis and at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The Jazz Underground Series is part of Loyola Universityĺs 2007-2008 Montage Series. The Montage Series is a fine and performing arts showcase that exhibits some of the top arts events in the New Orleans region. The Jazz Underground Series, organized by Associate Professor of Jazz Studies Tony Dagradi, boasts an exciting line-up of artists that will perform on the Loyola campus throughout the 2007-2008 season.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 Loyola community and students with ID, and can be purchased online at www.montage.loyno.edu
