Loyola Womenĺs Resource Center announces new director

August 15, 2008

Loyola University of New Orleans’ Women’s Resource Center announces the appointment of a new director Karen Reichard, Ph.D.

Reichard, who is a native New Orleanian and graduate of Ursuline Academy, returned to the city after two years in Oregon following Hurricane Katrina.

Reichard received a doctorate degree in French Literature from Tulane University, where she concentrated on gender issues during the French Enlightenment. She also holds a master’s degree in French from Middlebury College in Vermont and a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana State University.

Prior to her move to Oregon, Reichard was a visiting assistant professor at Tulane University, where she taught French and Women’s Studies.

The Women’s Resource Center provides support to the educational mission of Women’s Studies by sponsoring informational programming, advocacy and services and generally supporting an environment on campus free of sexism and oppression.

“My vision for the Women’s Resource Center is that it be inclusive so that all feel welcome,” Reichard said. “One of my primary goals in programming is to build connections while honoring and valuing differences.”

“The Jesuit tradition of social responsibility, insistence on the search for truth through rigorous exploration, and emphasis on the development of the individual to her or his full potential has been and will continue to be mirrored in the center’s activities.”

For more information on the Women’s Resource Center, contact Reichard at reichard@loyno.edu.
