Residential Life director a budding poet

October 24, 2008

Rashad Givhan, an area director in the Office of Residential Life, has published a poem in the literary magazine Kansas City Voices: A Periodical of Writing and Art, and in the journal Callaloo.

Givhan’s poem, “With Big Mama in Wabbaseka Cemetery,” was published in the sixth volume of Kansas City Voices, which was circulated in early October. Kansas City Voices is a non-profit magazine, which “promotes self-esteem, creativity and communications through literature and other forms of art and self-expression.”

Givhan’s poem, “Tree of Life,” will be featured in the Winter 2008 issue of Callaloo, which is a periodical devoted to creative work and critical studies of the work of African-Americans and peoples of African descent.

Givhan, who began working at Loyola in July, has a master’s degree in English and writes for fun.
