Loyola Ballet presents "The Nutcracker Suite" tonight and Saturday

The Loyola Ballet will present a holiday concert featuring Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker Suite" and other contemporary and character works. "The Nutcracker Suite" will be accompanied by the Loyola Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Jean Montès.

Loyola University New Orleans will celebrate the holiday season with the annual Christmas at Loyola musical celebration on Sunday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m., at Holy Name of Jesus Church, located at 6367 St. Charles Ave. Admission is free and open to the public.

Moot Court team advances to finals

The Loyola University New Orleans College of Law Moot Court Team won the regional competition of the 59th Annual National Moot Court Competition at U.S. District Court in New Orleans on Saturday, Nov. 15. The competition is hosted by the Bar Association of New York. Loyola last won the regionals in 2006.

Peace committee calls for student projects on world peace

The Student Coordinating Committee for World Peace at Loyola University New Orleans will host the first annual Student Peace Conference, an interdisciplinary summit dedicated to global peace, the week of March 23, 2009. Along with speakers, community action programs and cultural events, there will be an academic component in which all students are invited to present a paper or project on the subject of peace.The deadline for submissions is Monday, Dec. 15, 2008.

Tuszynski's three-point play propels Wolfpack to best start in 55 years

Wolfpack junior forward Nick Tuszynski scored a lay-up with 31 seconds remaining while being fouled and hit the ensuing free throw to push the Wolfpack to a 78-77 win over the Philander Smith Panthers Tuesday night at The Den. The victory pushed the Wolfpack record to 4-0 for the first time since the 1953-54 season.

John Biguenet's "Rising Water" produced across the country

John Biguenet, Robert Hunter Distinguished University Professor, was named Theatre Person of the Year and his play "Rising Water" was named Best Original Play at the 2008 Big Easy Theatre Awards. "Rising Water" has been produced in the last six months in numerous locations across the country.
