Loyola community sends notes of encouragement, advice to President Obama

January 30, 2009

“Remember the words spoken to Spiderman, Mr. President, ‘With great power comes great responsibility.’ Good luck!” wrote Loyola student Mark Johnson to President Barack Obama on Inauguration Day.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, the Loyola University Bookstore offered stamped postcards addressed to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., to any student, faculty or staff member who wished to send a personal note to the new president. Dozens of people participated in penning postcards to Obama. The personalized cards, featuring photographs of Loyola’s campus, offered him varying words of encouragement, pride, prayer and advice on specific issues.

Bookstore Manager Ivon Fascio said this was the store’s contribution to the multitude of inauguration events held at Loyola.

“We wanted to offer something to the Loyola community on this day, and yet not take away from the events that were already planned. This was a really neat way for us to allow people to send their own personal message to President Obama,” said Fascio.
