Biology department brings scientists to campus

The Department of Biological Sciences at Loyola University New Orleans will host a series of career and research seminars featuring prominent regional, national and international scientists.

All of the seminars, scheduled in February, March and April, take place at 12:30 p.m., in Monroe Hall, Room 157 and are free and open to the public.

Career Seminars

  • Feb. 26 – “The Exciting World of Careers in Pharmacy,” presented by Randall Schexnayder, director of admissions, Xavier University of Louisiana School of Pharmacy
  • Mar. 5 – “Careers in Physical Therapy,” presented by Jane Eason, Ph.D., P.T., director of admissions, LSU School of Allied Health Department of Physical Therapy
  • Mar. 12 – James B. Altazan, director of admissions, Our Lady of the Lake College

Research seminars

  • Mar. 3 – “The Mississippi River’s Influence on Wetland Substrate Elevation and Plant Growth Within the Bird-foot Delta after 24 years of Study,” presented by David White, Ph.D., Department of Biological Sciences, Loyola University.
  • Mar. 17 – “Evolution of the Biobuoy for Red Tide Detection,” presented by John Paul, Ph.D., University of South Florida College of Marine Science
  • Mar. 31 – “Evolution and Diversification in an Alpine Ecosystem,” presented by Charles Bell, Ph.D., University of New Orleans Department of Biological Sciences
  • April 21 – “Development of Feline Transgenic Knockout Model for Cystic Fibrosis Research,” presented by Anand Viswanathan, Ph.D., LSU Health Sciences Center Gene Therapy Program
