Trenese Smith led the Wolfpack (12-6, 8-2 GCAC) with a game high 20 points. The junior from LaPlace hit 7 of 17 from the field and 6 of 10 from behind the arc. It was the seventh game in a row that Smith scored in double figures.

Other leaders for Loyola included Trenell Smith with 15 points. She added a season high eight assists. Christine Mainguy added 10 points and grabbed a team high eight rebounds.

The victory for the Wolfpack avenged a 49-42 loss to the Gold Rush on Jan. 29 in The Barn as well as snapped Xavier’s five-game win streak.

For Xavier (16-6, 7-3 GCAC), Shayla Boyd was the lone Nugget in double figures. She came off the bench to score 10 points. Johnna Williams grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

The victory moved Loyola a half game out of first place behind LSU-Shreveport. The Wolfpack came into the contest in a three-way tie for second place with Xavier and William Carey. Loyola and Xavier are both receiving votes in the latest NAIA women’s hoops poll.

Loyola travels to the University of Mobile Saturday evening. Tip-off in Pharr Gymnasium is set for 5 p.m.
