Law Clinic instructor invited to speak in Las Vegas

Hiroko Kusuda, clinical instructor of immigration law in the Stuart H. Smith Law Clinic and Center for Social Justice at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law, was an invited speaker at the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, this month.

The title of the presentation was “Cutting Edge Detention Issues” in which the panel discussed issues associated with immigration detention of individuals. Among the topics discussed were bond procedures and automatic stay regulations, abuse of children, lack of medical care, sudden transfer to a far away detention center, separation of families, indefinite detention and recent case law and legal strategies representing detained individuals.
