Upcoming Montage music performances feature chamber music and jazz

The Montage Fine and Performing Arts Series presents exciting chamber music and jazz concerts beginning this week. The Montage series is brought to you by the College of Music and Fine Arts at Loyola University New Orleans.

On Friday, Nov. 6, The Loyola Chamber Orchestra, directed by Dr. Jean Montès, will perform at 7:30 p.m. in Roussel Hall, located in the Communications Music Complex. Admission is free and open to the public.

Classical musicians will perform Brandenburg Concerto, no. 3, by Bach; Serenade, no. 6, in D Major “Serenata nottura,” by Mozart; Sinfonia, no. 12, in g minor, by Mendelssohn; and “Marassa e iou,” by Werner Jeagerhuber.

On Sunday, Nov. 8, the Loyola Jazz Band will present a concert featuring the music of Woody Herman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Maynard Ferguson and Thad Jones at 7:30 p.m., in Roussel Hall. The concert, directed by John Mahoney, is free and open to the public.

On Tuesday, Nov. 10, Loyola’s distinguished Faculty Chamber Ensemble will perform a concert that includes Beethoven’s String Quartet no. 14, in c-sharp minor, op. 131. The free performance will be at 7:30 p.m., in Roussel Hall.

Performers include faculty members Amy Thiaville, violin; Bruce Owen, viola; and Allen Nisbet, cello. Also featured will be Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra violinist Elizabeth Overweg.
