Statement from Loyola president about alumnus and trustee Sean O'Keefe

August 13, 2010

Sean O'Keefe

Dear campus community,

It comes as a great relief to us all that distinguished Loyola University New Orleans alumnus and Board of Trustees member Sean O’Keefe ’77 and his son, Kevin, have miraculously survived a tragic plane crash in the Alaskan wilderness. As many of you know, Sean, CEO of the North American arm of the European Aeronautic Defense & Space Co., was one of nine people on board a private plane that crashed near Dillingham, Alaska, late Monday that left five of the nine people on board dead, among them former Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens.

All of us at Loyola continue to keep Sean and his son Kevin in our prayers as they are being treated for serious injuries. The O’Keefe family is constantly in our thoughts, and we wish Sean and Kevin a swift and full recovery. I would also ask you all to continue to keep the victims of the crash, their families, and loved ones close in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

With prayers,

Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., Ph.D.
President, Loyola University New Orleans
