The Loyola University New Orleans Asian Student Organization and Black Student Union will host their second annual Spoken Word Through Culture event, which aims to unite and empower students from different backgrounds by giving them the opportunity to express themselves verbally to their community.

On Friday, Nov. 19, from 7 – 9 p.m., attendees will gather in Nunemaker Auditorium to hear from special guests Bao Phi, Kelly Tsai and Giles Li, three Asian-American poets who have won several awards at poetry slams and competitions and have been recognized for their outstanding talents on HBO’s television series, “Def Poetry Jam,” produced by Russell Simmons.

Spoken Word will also feature speakers from the Loyola and New Orleans’ communities through representatives from BSU and Vietnamese American Youth Leaders Association of New Orleans. The event is free and open to the public.

For more information about Spoken Word, contact Kevin Tran, LASO co-president, at 504-982-4852 or khtran@loyno.edu.
