Writer Claudia Yelin speaks about her emigration experience

April 1, 2011

Argentinean writer and psychologist Claudia Yelin will present a talk on her book “Emigration: In Search of a Safe Space,” at Loyola University New Orleans on Thursday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m., in Multimedia Room 2, Monroe Library. Admission is free and open to the public.

In her book, Yelin highlights her own experience when she was forced to leave her home country of Argentina because it no longer provided a place of refuge and nourishment.

Yelin was raised in Buenos Aires and relocated to Washington, D.C. in the early 1980s. She holds a master’s degree in social work from Catholic University of America and counseled children and families for 30 years. Yelin’s current research focuses on the immigration process and its effect on individuals and families.

The lecture is sponsored by Loyola’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies, CASA Argentina and the Hispanic American Medical Association of Louisiana.
