October 14, 2011

Sanford Hinderlie, music professor at Loyola University New Orleans, recently recorded and released a new CD, “Christmas in New Orleans.” A solo jazz piano rendition of traditional and secular Christmas songs, the CD was originally released in Germany and is due out in the U.S. next fall.

Hinderlie, who spent his sabbatical in Germany last year, performed solo jazz piano concerts in Düsseldorf, Berlin and Dresden. He also collaborated with German trombonist, Günther Heinz, performing a free improvisation concert in Freiberg, Germany. The concerts received positive reviews in German regional newspapers.

The Rita O. Huntsinger Distinguished Professor in Music, Hinderlie also recently presented the paper “Analysis of Teaching Online, Case Study: The History of American Popular Music,” at the College Music Society International Conference in Dubrovnik, Croatia, and at the International Conference of Education Research and Innovation in Madrid, Spain. The paper, “Analysis of Using Clickers in Higher Education Classrooms, Case Study: The History of American Popular Music,” was recently presented at the International Conference on Education and New Learning Technologies in Barcelona, Spain.

Hinderlie also collaborated with his wife, Helma Kaldewey, presently completing a doctoral degree at Tulane University, on the study of East German jazz during the Cold War and its political implications between the U.S. State Department and the regime of East Germany.
