Law student honored by national organization

March 9, 2012

Third-year Loyola University New Orleans College of Law student, Lacey Rochester, was one of five students nationwide honored as a 2012 Distinguished Law Student by the American College of Bankruptcy, an honorary professional and educational association of bankruptcy and insolvency professionals.

Students undergo a rigorous nomination process and must be recommended by either a College of Bankruptcy Fellow or one of their professors. Each nominated student must have outstanding academic credentials and an interest in bankruptcy law. Only one student is selected from each circuit. Rochester was nominated by Adjunct Professor David J. Messina ’84, J.D. ’87, M.B.A. ’87, lecturer in creditors’ rights and bankruptcy at the College of Law. Messina was also Rochester’s law review comment adviser for her topic, “The Need to Reconsider the Conduit Theory under Federal Bankruptcy Law.” In addition, Rochester was also a member of the Bankruptcy Moot Court Team and competed last year in the Duberstein Competition.

Rochester will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the College’s annual induction ceremony and events in Washington, D.C., March 16-17, where she will have the opportunity to meet and greet distinguished bankruptcy practitioners and judges in the country. It takes place at the U.S. Supreme Court and will be presided over by Chair of the American College of Bankruptcy, Paul M. Singer.

The American College of Bankruptcy plays an important role in sustaining professional excellence. College fellows include commercial and consumer bankruptcy attorneys, insolvency accountants, turnaround and workout specialists, law professors, judges, government officials and others involved in the bankruptcy and insolvency community.
