Loyola announces Centennial Guest Series lineup

Archbishop Gregory Michael Aymond, the 14th and current archbishop of New Orleans, will speak on September 20.

Loyola University New Orleans is celebrating its centennial throughout 2012-13 with a series of events featuring acclaimed guest speakers, authors and artists. The series will provide an array of cultural, artistic, Catholic and intellectual perspectives. Each will supplement Loyola’s mission of providing outstanding holistic Jesuit education and serving the New Orleans community.

The Centennial Guest Series was developed by Loyola President Kevin Wm. Wildes, S.J., Ph.D., and well-known political power couple and New Orleans residents, Mary Matalin and James Carville.

All events begin at 7 p.m. and take place on Loyola’s main campus. They are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted.

September 20 – Archbishop Gregory Michael Aymond, the 14th and current archbishop of New Orleans (Roussel Hall)

October 22 – Centennial concert with the Wynton Marsalis Quintet, featuring the nine-time Grammy-winning New Orleans native (Roussel Hall)

Ticket prices - Loyola students: $10; Loyola faculty and staff: $15; reserved seating: $25; preferred seating: $40; preferred seating with artist’s reception after the concert: $75

January 16 – The Rev. James Heft, S.M., president of the Institute of Catholic Studies at the University of Southern California (Nunemaker Auditorium)

February 19 – The Rev. Michael Garanzini, S.J., president of Loyola University Chicago (Nunemaker Auditorium)

February 26 – Cokie Roberts, senior news analyst for NPR, political commentator for ABC News and New Orleans native (Roussel Hall)

March 18 – The Rev. James Martin, S.J., associate editor of America magazine (Nunemaker Auditorium)

April 17 – Nicholas Carr, 2011 Pulitzer Prize finalist and New York Times bestselling author of “The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains” (Roussel Hall)
