Golf coach completes 100 holes in a day

September 20, 2013

The Loyola University New Orleans head men’s and women’s golf coach Lisa Tinkler participated in the 100 Holes for History charity golf tournament at Audubon Golf Club on Sept. 3. The third annual event, sponsored by the Gulf States PGA and the Bayou District Foundation, was held in an effort to raise money for the creation of a permanent golf museum to be housed in the proposed new clubhouse facility at City Park in New Orleans.

Twelve local PGA section members and six amateur players played a collective 1,800 holes to raise a total of $50,000. Tinkler was the first and only female participant in the Gulf States section of the event to ever compete. Individually, she completed play on 100 holes in six hours and 45 minutes and raised more than $1,200.

“I have a great support system,” Tinkler said. “The parents of my student athletes are wonderful and were more than willing to donate. My family, friends and members of the community all made very generous donations.”

The Bayou District Foundation believes that golf can offer youth a unique sport for understanding what the game teaches: responsibility, respect and integrity. This philosophy spearheaded their efforts to rebuilding the golf courses in City Park in the hopes that nearby golf access could play an integral role in the overall Bayou District quality of life, just as it has in Atlanta at East Lake. In Atlanta, the game of golf is a major part of the amazing story of the transformation of the East Lake Villages residential community.

“Community involvement is something I emphasize to my student athletes,” Tinkler added. “This event provided me with the perfect opportunity to practice what I preach, and I plan on participating again.”

The fourth annual 100 Holes for History event is scheduled to take place Sept. 2, 2014.
