Is social media essential for nonprofits? Loyola's Donnelley Center says yes, offers free workshop

November 22, 2013

The Shawn M. Donnelley Center for Nonprofit Communications at Loyola University New Orleans will host its first free workshop of the year Monday, Dec. 2, giving New Orleans-area nonprofits the guidance and information they need to navigate today’s social media stratosphere where hashtags and “likes” abound. The workshop is set for room 331 of Loyola’s Communications/Music Complex from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It is open to all local 501(c)(3) certified nonprofits.

During the workshop, Loyola professor and social media expert Andrew Nelson will discuss how nonprofits can use social media to increase awareness of their organization and establish an online presence.

“Whether it’s analytics or editorial ideas, even the smallest nonprofits need to know the fundamentals of social media,” Nelson said. “Loyola’s School of Mass Communication and the Donnelley Center can help you get started at this event.”

“The Social Networks” workshop is the first in a series catered to local nonprofit organizations. Workshops focusing on event planning and promotion will be held in the spring semester.

Space for this event is limited. Nonprofits should RSVP to donnelleycenter@gmail.com to reserve a spot.

Founded in 1996, the Shawn M. Donnelley Center is a student-run agency dedicated to helping nonprofits achieve success through effective communication. The center provides various services for free, including strategic planning, branding, media relations and design.
