First Tuesdays series continues with presentation by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Bob Marshall

March 28, 2014

The Loyola University New Orleans Institute for Ministry continues its “First Tuesdays: Spirituality in the City” series next week with a presentation by Loyola alumnus and journalist for The Lens Bob Marshall ’71. Marshall presents "Having Faith in Nature," Tuesday, April 1 at 12:30 p.m. at the Jesuit Church of the Immaculate Conception, located downtown at 130 Baronne St. It is free and open to the public and includes a simple lunch at 12:15 p.m.

Marshall is the former outdoors editor for the Times-Picayune. In 1997, he was a member of the three-man team that earned the newspaper's first Pulitzer Prize, taking the coveted public service award for the series “Oceans of Trouble,” which examined the plight of the world’s fisheries. In 2005, Marshall won his second Pulitzer Prize for his investigation into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' missteps in building the New Orleans levees and floodwalls as a part of the paper’s post-Katrina coverage. He also was awarded the 2007 John H. Oakes Prize for Distinguished Environmental Reporting from Columbia University and the Keck Award for best science reporting from the National Academies of Sciences.

People of all faiths (or none at all) are invited to this annual interfaith series, now in its fifth year, that promotes dialogue, mutual understanding and collaboration on topics of spirituality. On first Tuesdays October through May, local leaders initiate conversations about their spiritual traditions and address the theme, “Spirituality in the City." The series is sponsored by the Jesuit Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Loyola Institute for Ministry and the Catholic Book Store.
